The Game

It is a game!
I smile at the possibilities. Do I dar to play?

It is just a game, I laugh to myself, and place my piece upon the board.
I make a round and feel exultation at my triumph.

It is a GAME, I remind myself as my recklessness beckons me to become more involved.
I make a few contacts forbidden, and am drawn deeper still.

Is it just a game? I question, as my spirit soars with sudden hope.

It could be more....

I am betrayed.

'It was... just a game', I whisper to myself as my heart breaks.

I refuse to cry, but my soul weeps.

I remove my piece from the board, never to play again.

Untitled

The skies darken suddenly, as though tailoring themselves to suit my mood.

Black are my thoughts this day indeed.

The darkness thickens to obscure my sight and I wait expectantly.

For a moment all is still, then with a gently sigh the wind begins.
Breathing ever so slightly at first, it begins to whip itself into a wailing frenzy.

It dances around me, lashing my hair about my face in wild abandon.
